Madz choral fest at CCP in May

THE Philippine Madrigal Singers and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) present Spirit of ASEAN, The Madz et Al Choral Festival 2017, with a series of performances throughout May.


Madz Et Al, a brainchild of National Artist for Music and founder of the Philippine Madrigal Singers Prof. Andrea O. Veneracion, is a network of choirs led by members and alumni of the Madz. This network stages what is today the Philippines’s biggest and longest running choral festival, bringing together almost a hundred choirs in a week-long series of performances annually for over 30 years now.

This year, the event is held in connection with the Philippine hosting of the ASEAN 2017, and coincides with the ASEAN’s 50th founding anniversary. The festival will showcase various choral works from different member ASEAN countries. One country is featured in every show for both matinee and gala.

Performances will be on May 19, 7:30 p.m.; May 20, 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; May 21, 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; May 26, 2:30 p.m.; May 27, 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and May 28, 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., at the CCP Little Theater.

Among the many performing groups from the different regions of the country are the Anima Christi Chorale, Coro De Sta. Cecilia, Kalinangan Chamber Singers, Samahang Banal na Mag-Anak Chorale, UPLB Choral Ensemble, Arellano Law Singers, Dasmariñas Chamber Singers, the National Grid Corporation Chorale, the Philippine National Police Chorale, the UPLB Lisieux Music Ministry, Acapellago, De La Salle HIS Saring Himig, the Shrine of Jesus Children and Youth Choir, Saint Scholastica’s College Chamber Choir, Virlanie Children’s Voices, AUP Little Singers, Coro D’llera Music Ministry, and the Mandaluyong Children’s Choir.
